Malinska Beaches: The Best Beaches on Krk’s West Coast (Local Guide)

Malinska beaches are the main reason most people come to this part of Krk. The coast here is long and deeply indented, so wherever you stay, a place to swim is only a short walk away. Most beaches have concrete sunbathing areas with pebble entrances to the sea, and a seaside promenade links them all, from Rajska cesta towards Njivice in the north to the village of Porat in the south. This local guide covers the best beaches in Malinska, which one suits you, and where to go with kids or a dog.

Beaches in the centre of Malinska

Rupa is the main town beach, only about 200 metres from the centre. It is around 350 metres long and has clean concrete platforms, pebble entrances, showers, changing cabins and loungers for rent. Thanks to its exceptionally clean water, Rupa holds a Blue Flag. In addition, children love the playground, swings and small water park, and the beach is also adapted for people with disabilities. Finally, in the evening, it is one of the best places in Malinska to watch the sunset.

Just past Rupa is little Portić, next to the Kraljić family shipyard, the oldest traditional shipyard in the northern Adriatic. Maestral is also close to the centre. It lies right on the promenade, 50 metres from a car park, and has a ramp for wheelchairs, a pier for jumping and a new concrete sunbathing area.

Best beaches in Malinska for families

Draga, just below Hotel Malin, is one of the most popular family beaches. The entry into the sea is shallow, there is a water park, and the car park is only 50 metres away. Similarly, Rova is a good choice for children, with easy access to the water, a water park and ice cream nearby. You can also reach Rova by the small tourist train from the centre.

Haludovo stretches for about 500 metres below the former hotel complex. Moreover, pine and laurel trees give natural shade, and the fine sand in the shallow water is perfect for playing picigin, the Croatian beach ball game. In addition, there is a sandbox for kids, pedal boats for hire, showers and changing cabins. For more ideas, see our guide to Malinska for families. The story of the abandoned hotel above it is in Haludovo in Malinska.

Malin beach: water sports and beach bars

Malin is the liveliest of all Malinska beaches. This 500-metre concrete beach has piers for jumping, a beach bar and a restaurant. For example, if you want action, try the jet ski, banana boat, parasailing or water skiing. Kids enjoy the floating water park, while young people play volleyball on the lit court late into the evening.

Quiet beaches and coves

If you prefer peace, walk a little further from the centre:

  • Vrtača – a smaller beach between Rova and Draga, with pine shade and a ramp for wheelchairs.
  • Trstika – a small pebble beach between Rova and Vantačići, with a beach bar in the shade above it.
  • Cuklićevo – a quiet bay with clear water and pine trees, about 200 metres from parking.
  • Vantačići – a sheltered little port with views of Rijeka and Učka, and a family restaurant right on the beach.
  • Valica – a terraced beach with plenty of privacy and a rocky coast that free divers love.
  • Uhlić – a pebble beach in the pine forest of Porat, at the last stop of the tourist train.

Dog beach in Malinska

Dogs are not welcome on the busy organised beaches, so head to Ribarsko selo, the official dog beach. It has shade, space for walks and a car park 30 metres away. There is also a pet-friendly spot in the coves beyond Uhlić beach near Porat, marked with a sign. More walks and tips in Malinska with a dog.

Beaches you can only reach by boat

The most beautiful coves near Malinska have no road at all. In fact, with a small boat, you can find an empty beach even in August. Read our guide to the places near Malinska you can only reach by boat, or see how renting a boat without a licence works.
